Belinda Chellingworth

About Us - The Early Years

Bel (She/Her) is a circular economy expert, experienced waste manager, change maker and thought leader.

She grew up on bushland acreage in Western Sydney (Darug), dodging snakes, marvelling at tadpoles and refining her spider catching skills.

The first resource she learned to value as finite was water – rainwater tanks sat in place of convenient mains supply, and when low, there was no more unless a truck came.

Her love of nature paved career dreams of Zookeeping or just being a mermaid.

Education

She studied Science (Biodiversity) and spent her early career caring for animals and educating the public at what was then known as ‘Taronga Zoo’.

She continued in environmental education and tourism, has ventured to every continent independently, and gained expertise in environmental issues, sustainability and corporate responsibility globally as a result.

Real World Experience

Bel’s scientific training and global experience underpins her systems thinking. She assesses problems and create solutions with the end-to-end process front of mind.

She has a strong track record of delivery in government, not for profit and large organisations. She has previously led Circular Economy for several influential businesses including the London School of Economics, The GPT Group, Australia Post and ALDI Stores AU.

Bel doesn’t sit in the ‘Ivory Tower’ or assumes – she is hands on and finds out.

Bel lives for a site visit and thrives on engaging and exploring everywhere from the Board Room to the back dock.

It is addictive!

Bel has also systematically reduced her landfill footprint over the years, and now only produces <1kg per quarter for consumables.

Influencing beyond the desk, distribution centre or dock

Bel blends her passion for waste avoidance with her community pursuits, acting as the Chief Sustainability Officer for the Bondi Surf Girl Riders and Sydney Alterna Choir.
